Wichita, Kansas, residents are under a water boil advisory early Wednesday morning following a power outage at the city’s water treatment plant. City officials announced the advisory as widespread water pressure losses affect customers across the community.
City Issues Boil Advisory After Power Failure
The City of Wichita confirmed the advisory after a power outage struck the current water treatment facility. In a statement labeled “UPDATE from the City of Wichita,” officials directed water customers to follow boil-water precautions outlined on the city’s Public Water Supply webpage.
Officials plan to host a public update at City Hall at 8:30 a.m. to provide further details on the situation and restoration efforts.
Widespread Pressure Loss Reported Across Wichita
Residents on both the east and west sides of Wichita reported significantly lowered or completely lost water pressure early Wednesday. Reports from viewers across the city began reaching the 12 News newsroom in the pre-dawn hours.
As of 6:00 a.m., city officials confirmed to 12 News that crews were actively working to address the apparent widespread problem. However, by 6:15 a.m., the city had not yet identified the specific source causing the pressure disruption.
The exact number of water customers impacted by the pressure problem remains unclear at this time.
What Residents Should Do Now
Until further notice, all Wichita water customers should adhere to standard boil-water protocols. This includes bringing water to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to use for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. The city will provide updates as the investigation continues and service is restored.
