Julia Garner Channels Old Hollywood Glamour at the 2024 Emmys

Julia Garner arrived at the Emmy Awards red carpet in a shimmering silver gown that evoked the elegance of Hollywood’s Golden Age. The actress, who is serving as a presenter at the ceremony, paired the metallic dress with Betzábe Alessandra silver mirror platform heels and coordinating silver earrings. Her platinum pixie cut completed the timeless aesthetic.

From Casual Pre-Emmys Dinner to Red Carpet Radiance

Garner’s Emmys weekend began the previous evening at a pre-ceremony dinner, where she opted for a relaxed yet polished look in a navy top and dark pants. The contrast underscored her versatility both on and off the screen. During the pre-Emmys festivities, she was photographed in deep conversation with model and actress Kaia Gerber, star of The Shards.

ELLE October Cover Star Details Radical Transformation for The Altruists

Garner graces the cover of ELLE’s October issue, where she opened up about her upcoming Netflix series The Altruists. In the limited series, she portrays Caroline Ellison, the former business partner of Sam Altman. The role demanded a physical and psychological metamorphosis unlike any she had undertaken before.

“It was the hardest job I’ve ever done,” Garner said. Given her history of disappearing into her characters, “I wanted to see how far I could go,” she explained. “I want people to watch this and not see me at all. Like, at all.”

To embody Ellison, Garner wore a wig, brown colored contacts, false teeth, a prosthetic nose, and thick glasses. The transformation was so complete that even her co-star Anthony Boyle was stunned.

“I had to step up my game,” he said. “It was astonishing. No one actually recognized her. Not one person! I was just blown away. And she is arguably the most talented person in any room she’s in.”

Navigating Self-Doubt Through Radical Acceptance

Despite her acclaimed career and chameleonic abilities, Garner revealed she still battles intense self-doubt during production.

“Every job I’m on, there always comes a point in the middle of shooting where I feel like I’m messing up,” she explained. “Like, I’m the worst actor. I feel like I stopped being good a few years ago. It’s like that on every job. So now I’m doing this radical acceptance, like, ‘Okay, the next job I’ll do, I’ll probably feel like that, and that’s okay….'”

This candid admission from a three-time Emmy winner offers a rare glimpse into the vulnerability that coexists with her formidable craft.
