A TikTok creator known as @doseofchi shared a detailed account of her first Hinge match, describing a series of red flags that appeared before the pair ever met in person. The video, posted under the handle @_doseofchi, has garnered more than 300,000 views and nearly 800 comments, with many viewers validating her decision to walk away.
Initial Connection on Hinge
The creator said the experience took place around 2020 or 2021 while she was living in Fort Worth, Texas. After downloading Hinge, she matched with a man who initially seemed promising. They moved from the app to social media and phone numbers, FaceTiming frequently for hours at a time. Chi said she enjoyed his personality and sense of humor during this phase.
First Date Logistics Raise Concerns
Because the two lived in different parts of Texas, planning a first date required travel. Chi said the man suggested meeting at Legacy West in Plano, a location roughly five minutes from him but 45 minutes from her.
Chi viewed the suggestion as a red flag and proposed meeting closer to the midpoint. However, he insisted Legacy West offered more activities. She eventually agreed to the location but asked to adjust the time so she would not have to drive back to Fort Worth late at night. According to Chi, he responded:

Roughly two months later, the man contacted Chi again and invited her to Jamaica for his birthday. She declined, citing the fact they had never met face-to-face.

she said.

As his birthday approached, Chi said the man added her to his Instagram Close Friends list. She then saw a photo of him having dinner with another woman. She removed and blocked him across platforms.
About a week later, while driving to work, Chi received multiple calls from an unknown number. Thinking it might be an emergency, she answered and heard her former Hinge match crying. He texted that his mother might be in danger. His mother lived and worked in Lekki, Nigeria, where a shooting occurred in 2020. He said the shooting was near her office and he could not reach her.
Chi said she was confused why he contacted her given they had never met. Still, she followed news updates and told him she would pray for his mother. He later informed her that his mother was safe and that cell towers had briefly gone down, preventing communication.
