A woman shared a harrowing Hinge date story on her TikTok account, @oliviaknoxofficial, describing it as “the worst” after friends encouraged her to post the experience. According to the creator, the date occurred roughly a year before the video was published. At the time of reporting, the clip had amassed approximately 46,200 views and over 622 comments.
From FaceTime to a first date surprise
The woman explained that she matched with a man on Hinge and they had several FaceTime calls that went well. When they began discussing a first date, the man — an avid surfer — asked if they could catch waves together. Since surfing “wasn’t really her thing,” she counter-suggested grabbing food instead.

The first date takes an unexpected turn
Although the man initially said it was “no problem” that she didn’t want to surf, he offered to pick her up. Looking back, she says that’s when she “[made] the first mistake and [got] in his car on the first date.”
At the time, she recalls both looking cute and everything seeming “good to go.” But once in the car, he asked where they were going. She assumed he had a plan since he was driving. He told her he knew “a good spot” — which turned out to be an hour and a half away.
During the drive, she felt nervous, a detail he noticed. He then began singing Disney songs, which she says made her “even more uncomfortable.” After hitting traffic, they arrived at Newport Beach roughly two hours later.
A bait-and-switch at the beach
Upon arrival, she realized he intended to surf rather than eat. According to the woman, “It was not a day for the waves,” but that didn’t deter him. He donned his wetsuit and produced one for her, though she claims it “smelled like s–t” and refused to wear it.
He entered the water while she remained on the beach, trying to figure out how to get home. She says she couldn’t afford an Uber at the time, so she stayed. Then it started to rain.
When he returned, he noticed her disappointment. She told him she never wanted to surf and thought they were getting food. She says he repeatedly apologized and asked to take her to eat. She agreed, requesting poke, so they went to a nearby restaurant.
Red flags over poke and McDonald’s
While waiting for their order, she says he didn’t ask a single question about her. Instead, he scrolled through photos of his abs and talked about “how much money he’s going to be making.”
The date continued when he suggested McDonald’s to further make up for the beach detour. She agreed, but when they arrived, he ordered only a McFlurry and reacted negatively when she asked for two spoons. He then said he had “one more place” to take her — another beach even farther than the last. She describes this as the point where things got “weird.”
She told him she wanted to go home. She later texted him to say she didn’t want to see him again.
