Zeta Studios and Elefantec Global have begun production on Marcelo en el mundo real, a film directed by Argentine filmmaker Lucía Puenzo and starring Eva Longoria and Eugenio Derbez.
The feature adapts the novel of the same name by Mexican-American author Francisco X. Stork. Filming will take place over the coming weeks in Uruguay and Boston.
A coming-of-age story set in the corporate world
The story follows Marcelo, a young man with autism spectrum disorder whose life changes when his father persuades him to take a summer job at his law firm. There, Marcelo must navigate the social and power dynamics of the corporate world while uncovering a secret connected to his father’s work that threatens the firm’s future.
Puenzo, whose credits include XXY, Wakolda and La caída, is directing the adaptation. The cast also includes Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, Matthew Borrero and Ema Giménez Zapiola.
José “Pepe” Bastón, founder of Elefantec Global, highlighted the project’s lengthy development process: “Dedicamos seis años a desarrollar esta historia hasta dejarla donde tenía que estar, porque desde el principio supe que era la película que quería hacer.
