Former Formula 1 driver and veteran Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle has unveiled a deeply personal automotive collaboration, partnering with Californian coachbuilder Gunther Werks and his daughter Charlie Brundle to produce the Brundle Edition Turbo. Built around Gunther Werks’ bespoke, air-cooled Porsche 911 Turbo platform, the project represents an ultra-exclusive run capped at just five production vehicles worldwide.
A Family Collaboration of Design and Vehicle Dynamics
The creation brings together two distinguished careers from across the motorsport and design industries. Charlie Brundle, a seasoned automotive designer whose professional background includes design tenures at McLaren, Aston Martin, and Jaguar Land Rover, took full charge of the visual and structural styling. Martin Brundle leveraged decades of top-tier racing and driving experience to hone the mechanical setup and driving dynamics, including fine-tuning the platform’s dedicated Sport and Track driving modes.
To collaborate with Gunther Werks and to have my daughter lead the design means this project is deeply personal,
Brundle said in the announcement. We’ve poured our collective experience from the driver’s seat, the paddock and the design studios into this car.
Engine Specifications, Aerodynamics, and Purist Driving Dynamics
At the mechanical heart of the Brundle Edition Turbo sits a high-performance, rear-mounted 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged air-cooled flat-six engine. The powerplant delivers a massive 860 hp and 610 lb-ft of torque. In keeping with the ethos demanded by sports car purists, all available power is directed strictly to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
Despite track-level engineering, the car was conceived to remain manageable and compliant outside of competitive circuits. For me, one of the most unique aspects of a Gunther Werks vehicle is that, despite having extreme race car performance, it is remarkably civilised and usable too,
Martin Brundle explained.
The aerodynamic and chassis package includes an adjustable rear wing, front dive planes (canards), Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, and lightweight forged magnesium wheels bearing custom Brundle branding. The exterior is finished in a bespoke two-tone pearl paint scheme derived from Martin Brundle’s signature racing helmet, paired with distinct “Brundle” script badging placed across the rear engine decklid.
Cabin Appointments and Bespoke Inclusions
Inside the cockpit, the vehicle integrates specific styling elements directly credited to the Brundle family. The seat headrests feature an “MB” monogram styled by Charlie Brundle, while the dashboard endplates bear Martin’s authentic signature. Furthermore, the dashboard is emblazoned with Martin’s long-standing broadcast quip: The most important bit of the car is the nut holding the steering wheel.
Each of the five buyers will also receive an accompanying Bell HP77 race-certified helmet. The helmet features a hand-painted scheme matching the car’s two-tone pearl livery and comes individually signed by Martin Brundle. The limited-run sports car is scheduled to make its public debut during the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas.
Why This Matters
The high-end restomod market has seen rapid growth, with collectors prioritizing air-cooled mechanical character and analog transmissions paired with modern aerodynamic and powertrain technology. By joining forces with Gunther Werks, Martin and Charlie Brundle bring a rare blend of real-world Grand Prix chassis development and modern OEM exterior design pedigree to the platform. With an output of 860 hp delivered through rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox, the Brundle Edition Turbo stands among the most powerful and exclusive air-cooled 911 restomods ever commissioned.
