Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has confirmed he moved quickly to secure Lewis Koumas’s place in the first-team squad, citing the young forward’s professional attitude, training application, and game-changing potential as a substitute.
Iraola revealed the decision was made almost immediately upon his arrival at the club.
“For me, Koumas the first week I was here I already told the club he was staying.”
The Spanish tactician highlighted Koumas’s impact off the bench as a key factor, suggesting the academy graduate has already earned trust through consistent performance levels in training and limited match minutes.
Koumas, a product of the Liverpool youth system, has featured sporadically for the senior side this season. The manager’s early endorsement signals a clear pathway for the attacker as the squad navigates a demanding fixture schedule across multiple competitions.
