Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested early Sunday in downtown Indianapolis on preliminary charges related to driving while intoxicated, creating an unexpected off-field issue during his first week with the team.
Allen, 34, was taken into custody at approximately 1 a.m. ET after Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers conducted a traffic investigation in the 100 block of South Meridian Street. Police said officers found a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone and noticed signs of intoxication during their interaction with Allen.
According to Marion County jail records, Allen faces two misdemeanor allegations: operating a vehicle while intoxicated while endangering another person, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with an alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher.
The charges are preliminary allegations, and Allen has not been convicted of either offense. He was being held at the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center following the arrest.
Arrest follows Allen’s first game with the Colts
The incident occurred only hours after Allen made his first appearance in a Colts uniform. Indianapolis hosted the Detroit Lions in its preseason finale Saturday, with Allen playing briefly and catching one pass for 24 yards. The Colts lost 25-16.
Indianapolis signed Allen to a one-year contract less than two weeks ago. The move was intended to provide the Colts with another experienced wide receiver as they prepare for the 2026 regular season.

Allen is entering his 14th NFL season with an accomplished résumé. The six-time Pro Bowl selection has recorded 1,055 receptions for 12,051 yards and 70 touchdowns during his career.
He spent the first 11 seasons of his professional career with the Chargers before joining the Chicago Bears in 2024. Allen returned to Los Angeles last season and finished with 81 catches for 777 yards and four touchdowns.
His experience made him a notable addition to an Indianapolis receiving group that could benefit from another established target. Sunday’s arrest, however, leaves the Colts with an off-field situation to address as the regular season approaches.
The team has acknowledged the incident but has not announced any disciplinary action. The Colts said they are aware of what happened and are gathering additional information, declining to comment further for now.
Allen’s situation remains developing. Any potential effect on his availability or standing with Indianapolis will likely depend on the legal process and additional information that emerges.
The Colts are scheduled to open their regular season against the Baltimore Ravens on September 13.
