Alan Permane Commits Long-Term Future to Racing Bulls Through 2031
Formula 1 veteran Alan Permane has officially signed a significant long-term contract extension to remain at the helm of Racing Bulls. Under the terms of the agreement, Permane will continue serving in his leadership roles as Team Principal and Co-CEO Sporting through the conclusion of the 2031 Formula 1 season, providing long-range leadership to the Faenza-based outfit.
Permane first arrived at the squad as Racing Director in January 2024. He was elevated to the position of Team Principal in July 2025 after Laurent Mekies departed the outfit to become the Team Principal of Red Bull Racing following Christian Horner’s exit. Permane’s extended commitment ensures continuity at the top of the technical and sporting branches of the organization alongside Peter Bayer, who leads the outfit’s commercial operations as Co-CEO Commercial.
I am immensely proud to be continuing this journey with VCARB,
Permane stated regarding his contract extension. We have the right people, the right culture and a clear sense of where we want to go, and I am excited to keep pushing together.
Rising Trajectory and Track Performance Under Permane’s Leadership
Permane’s tenure has coincided with a notable uptick in competitive performance for the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls (VCARB) squad. Under his guidance, the team secured its maiden podium under the VCARB identity at the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix. Racing Bulls went on to conclude the 2025 campaign sixth overall in the Constructors’ Championship, successfully equaling the squad’s historical best season finish.

The momentum has carried directly into the 2026 championship. The team has established a reliable run of points finishes, positioning them firmly in contention to capture fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Securing fifth would mark the highest championship ranking in the history of the Faenza-based team.
Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull CEO of Corporate Projects and Investments, highlighted the strategic importance of locking down Permane’s services for the long haul to sustain the team’s upward trajectory.
Alan is doing a tremendous job, and the progress the team has made is a direct reflection of his experience, commitment and competitive mindset,
Mintzlaff said. He brings clarity, composure, and a deep understanding of what it takes to perform in Formula One, while creating an environment where people can consistently deliver at their best.
The results Visa Cash App Racing Bulls has achieved in recent seasons underline the strength of the team and the work being done throughout the organization. Alan has played a key role in that progress, and we are very pleased that he will continue to lead the team as we look to build on this momentum in the years ahead.
Mintzlaff also emphasized the dual-management structure running the organization: Together with Peter Bayer as Co-CEO Commercial, Alan forms a strong and experienced leadership team. They complement each other exceptionally well, bringing different strengths and perspectives to the organization. I am delighted that we have this stability and continuity in place, providing a clear platform for the team’s future development and long-term ambitions.
Three Decades of Formula 1 Pedigree
Permane brings more than 30 years of top-level Formula 1 operational experience to his extended role. Prior to joining Racing Bulls, he spent 34 years based at the Enstone facility across its various guises, most recently competing under the Alpine banner. Throughout that tenure, Permane progressed through critical operational positions, including Race Engineer, Chief Race Engineer, and Sporting Director.
During his decades at Enstone, Permane contributed directly to four Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship triumphs, serving during Michael Schumacher’s title-winning campaigns in 1994 and 1995, as well as Fernando Alonso’s back-to-back world championships in 2005 and 2006.
Why This Matters
Securing Alan Permane through 2031 represents a foundational move for Red Bull’s secondary Formula 1 team. After substantial leadership changes across the Red Bull motorsport family in 2025—sparked by Christian Horner’s departure and Laurent Mekies’ promotion to Red Bull Racing—Permane has provided stability and immediate competitive execution.
By locking down both the sporting leadership in Permane and the commercial management in Bayer, Racing Bulls has established a clear governance model to challenge Formula 1’s midfield hierarchy. Maintaining this management structure ensures the team avoids the operational volatility that often hinders mid-grid teams, giving them a durable foundation to target consistent top-five finishes in the Constructors’ Championship.
