The U.S. Justice Department has seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency allegedly linked to Hamas as American authorities intensify efforts to disrupt the group’s fundraising operations.

FBI Traces Hamas Cryptocurrency Donations

In a September 1 announcement, the DOJ and FBI said they had also taken control of websites, domains and servers allegedly used to collect and transfer funds for Hamas and its military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades.

The operation expands U.S. efforts to shut down cryptocurrency channels that authorities say Hamas used to raise money. Investigators traced digital assets through wallet addresses that had been changed to make donation flows more difficult to follow.

Court documents describe three seizure warrants covering transactions conducted in 2025. The FBI also identified thousands of people who contacted Hamas online about cryptocurrency donations, information that could help investigators uncover additional fundraising activity.

Earlier Crypto Seizure and Buy Cash Investigation

The latest action follows an earlier seizure of approximately $201,400 in March 2025. According to court documents, the wallets involved had transferred more than $1.5 million since late 2024.

The DOJ also targeted approximately $2 million in digital currency linked to Buy Cash, a Gaza-based financial services company previously sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury.

Hamas said in 2023 that it would stop raising money through cryptocurrency. The latest seizures indicate that cryptocurrency fundraising allegedly linked to the group may have continued despite that announcement.

U.S. authorities are also pursuing the online infrastructure they say supports the fundraising network, including websites, domains and servers allegedly connected to the operation.
