On Tuesday morning, the daughter and the young grandson of a well -known co -founder of a crypto company were attacked by a masked gang in a brazen attack on a public road. The violent incident, which occurred in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, ended without a kidnapping, but is involved in a disturbing pattern of kidnappings that are directed against cryptocurrency executives and their families in France.

The attack occurred at 8:20 a.m. in Rue Pache, a residential street that is often driven by students. Three masked men jumped out of a white van and tried to pull the woman and her child into the vehicle. It is believed that the two are relatives of a co-founder of Paymium, a Bitcoin exchange platform based in France. The authorities have not announced the identity of those involved, but the police confirmed the family connections to the digital financial sector.

According to local media and witnesses, the woman’s husband was present and quickly intervened to protect his family from the attackers. When the suspects tried to separate him from his wife and child, he received several blows on the head. During the fight, the woman succeeded in snatching one of the men something that looked like a firearm and throwing it away. The police later identified the weapon as a replica of an air rifle.

Police investigations in action

The French police have initiated a formal examination. The case is processed by the Brigade de Répression du Banditisme (BRB), the unit responsible for combating severe and organized crime. Investigators are currently evaluating the recordings of the attack, including the video recorded by an eyewitness, in the hope of identifying the attackers. The family was treated by a doctor due to minor injuries, and no further threats were reported after the incident.

The authorities have not yet confirmed whether the attack was financially motivated. Nevertheless, the attack on the family of a cryptocurrency expert has aroused concern that criminals are increasingly regarding people with a crypto cover as high-quality destinations.

Part of a troubling trend

This kidnapping attempt is not an isolated case. He follows a recent incident in which the father of a cryptocurrency millionaire kidnapped in Paris and forced to pay a ransom. The man was supposedly kidnapped when he went for a walk with his dog and was released again three days later after the kidnappers cut off a finger. Several suspects were later arrested in connection with this case.

In another incident in January 2020, David Balland, the co-founder of the crypto wallet company Ledger, was kidnapped together with his wife in central France. He was found in a house near Paris a few days later, also without a finger. Such cases have triggered fears among crypto experts and led to demands for better personal security measures.
