Solana founder Yakovenko: A “meta-blockchain” could standardize the countless blockchain data types

Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has a new structure in mind, which would tackle a consequent problem of the current blockchain interperability: the standardization of data types of different blockchains without having to create another network ..

The concept, which Yakovenko recently described in a social media posting, provides for a “meta-blockchain” that enables developers and applications to transfer data to any chain, be it Ethereum, Celestia, Solana or others, and still maintain a globally agreed order of the transactions. The approach could bring a cost-effective, decentralized method for data availability and transaction order over several blockchain systems.

The meta-blockchain would not be a new network in the conventional sense. Yakovenko suggests Use a control catalog to combine data that is sent via different chains in a linear sequence. The transactions would be provided with a time stamp and verified in all blockchains, including the block header of the other networks. For example, a transaction submitted to Solana could contain Ethereum and Celestia header to determine their position in a wider, uniform timeline.

This model would enable applications to choose the cheapest or most efficient data availability layer at any time without being bound to a certain chain. The uniform sequence of events would enable developers to avoid the usual complexity that is connected to the synchronization of status and history over several networks.

Decentralization without infrastructure overhead

In contrast to other crisschain systems based on relays, bridges or new validation networks, Yakovenko’s proposal is infrastructure-neutral. The meta-blockchain would not have to do any other chain combined with the creation of a further consensus. Instead, it would act as a generally recognized “order protocol”, a software regulation that is used in all participating nodes and clients.

Some community members suggested scaling the model and installing a peer-to-peer (P2P) data storage system, similar to the torrent. Users could receive rewards for storing and sharing historical data on several chains. Yakovenko replied that such a model deviation from the actual intention. He emphasized that it was easy to rely on merge rules without introducing new networks or an additional operating level.

Application cases in modular and roll-up-centered systems

Since the blockchain development shifted to modular architectures, applications are often created using various chains for execution, consensus and data availability. Yakovenko’s meta-blockchain proposal fits this trend because it offers a coordination layer “Light” from which rollups, data unit and cross-chain systems could benefit.

The model could help avoid inconsistencies, double counts and replay problems by enabling a consistent and verifiable order of transactions across chains. It would also reduce the effort for developers who develop tailor -made systems to pursue activities in various networks.

In particular, the rollups, the scaling solutions in layer 2, which use a basic layer chain for data, could benefit from a meta-blockchain structure in which you can adjust data to the cheapest DA solution while you still have access to an associated transaction history.

Yakovenko’s proposal is promising, but so far theoretically. There is neither a white paper nor a repository or a prototype, but only a tweet in which the idea is presented. But she has triggered a debate among developers and that deals with the crosschain coordination and the optimization of data availability.
