Moonflower Coffee and Over 300 Colorado Merchants Now Accept Bitcoin

Real-World Cryptocurrency Adoption Gains Ground in Colorado

The practical use of cryptocurrency for daily retail purchases is rapidly evolving across Colorado, driven largely by modern point-of-sale (POS) software updates and grassroots advocacy. Venues such as Moonflower Coffee in Denver have successfully activated digital asset payment capabilities through standard register hardware. Like many modern registers, their Square terminal had native Bitcoin settings toggled on from the encouragement of local bitcoiners. Instead of selecting the Pay with Bitcoin option myself, I asked the barista to enable it on her side. That led to a nice 30-second conversation about Bitcoin before I enjoyed my Black Sesame Mocha Latte.

The trend extends beyond specialized cafes to traditional establishments across the Denver metropolitan area. Another great option is Butcher Block Cafe, 3700 Franklin Street Denver 80205. They had a great breakfast and a classic diner feel, but be sure to go to this location. Apparently it’s family-run and their other location does not accept bitcoin… yet!

Hardware Automation Versus Merchant Resistance

Despite the technical availability of payment tools, merchant acceptance remains uneven. The disparity becomes obvious when software defaults clash with proprietor preferences. The contrast between Moonflower Coffee and Fifth House highlighted just how uneven adoption remains.

At Fifth House Coffee, a point-of-sale configuration and an unwilling business owner revealed the limits of automated feature rollouts. Fifth House Coffee has a one screen Square register that doesn’t face the customer, so I couldn’t even select $BTC on my own if I tried. When I asked if they accepted Bitcoin, the owner stated firmly that it was his shop and he would not take it. It was on the $BTC Map, and has a Square register where the bitcoin acceptance feature likely was updated automatically in the background. I had to walk out without ordering. I still recommend to go stop by and ask about bitcoin.

The Battle for Main Street Payment Rails

Advocates tracking local retail trends stress that technology alone is insufficient to build a parallel economy without ongoing education. Reflecting on my time with Colorado Bitcoin Merchants, it forced a critical realization about where real-world adoption is heading. Some people may reject bitcoin on the surface and it’s up to us to dig deeper. We have a window before legacy banking rails step in to capture and monetize this infrastructure. If Bitcoiners want an open source, hard money world, we have the responsibility to create hyperbitcoinization.

To support community awareness, independent tracking continues to document merchants across the state. As always, a growing directory of over 300 verified Bitcoin-accepting merchants across Colorado is listed below. If you want your business added to the list, or if you have a new city and story to feature in an upcoming column, write directly to vagabond@b.tc.
