Chainlink announced on Tuesday, September 1, that its data feeds now relay official US economic statistics across ten public blockchains. The service gives blockchain applications access to key indicators including gross domestic product (GDP), inflation and private spending. The agreement with the US Department of Commerce began in August 2025.
Chainlink connects blockchains with US government economic data
The figures come from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), which publishes some of the country’s most closely watched economic reports.
Through its work with the US Department of Commerce, Chainlink provides blockchain applications with three measures: real GDP, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index and real final sales to private domestic purchasers.
GDP tracks the size and growth of the economy. The PCE Price Index measures changes in consumer prices, while real final sales to private domestic purchasers provide another view of demand from households and businesses.
Each measure is available through two types of data feed. One reports the latest level, while the other reports the measure’s change during the quarter. Together, these create six US economic data feeds.
The feeds are available on Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Botanix, Ethereum, Linea, Mantle, Optimism, Sonic and ZKsync.
Chainlink delivers the figures in a format that blockchain-based services can read and use automatically. The BEA remains responsible for producing and publishing the original economic data.
Potential uses for Chainlink’s economic data feeds
One possible application is a prediction market where participants forecast GDP growth or inflation, with the market settling when the latest government figures are released.
Developers could also build financial products whose terms change in response to inflation or economic growth. Lending platforms may use the data when adjusting their risk controls.
These are potential applications rather than confirmed deployments. There is also no assurance that the initiative will create additional demand for LINK. Any impact will depend on developers adopting the feeds and building applications that attract users.
Chainlink has brought six US economic data feeds to marketplaces across ten public blockchains. The initiative launched in 2025, but the number of applications currently relying on the feeds remains unknown.
