  • The Cardano “Proof of Bike” identification system proves ownership of bikes and identifies stolen bikes. This is intended to prevent theft.
  • The system also documents legal private sales of registered bicycles and is fully in line with existing EU objectives.

A bike identification system based on the Cardano blockchain is now active for around 300,000 bikes, as confirmed at the Cardano Summit. The “Proof of Bike” technology was developed by Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation, presentedwho met with the BikeID team at the event.

In contrast to cars, which are identified via officially registered chassis numbers, there is still no official registration system for bicycles. This contributes to the high number of thefts, stolen goods and property disputes. This results in losses worth billions worldwide.

BikeID’s Proof of Bike system can change that. It issues tamper-proof identification numbers that are stored on the Cardano blockchain. In this way, ownership relationships are documented in a secure manner without the need for centralized databases.

Gregaard explained:

“I’m really impressed by the scale and vision behind it.”

BikeID is compliant with EU regulations

BikeID’s system is designed to comply with the European Union’s regulations for digital product passports as part of its sustainability policy. The tool supports sustainable transport and recycling. This makes the use of bicycles even more environmentally friendly than it already is.

Gregaard emphasizes that the use case shows how well Cardano is adapted to European regulations aimed at preserving the environment.

The platform uses the Cardano mainnet to store bike proof and bike ownership data. It records lifecycle events such as service, transfer or theft on the blockchain through certificates that cannot be changed. Offchain data is handled securely through partners Iagon for storage, Midgard for crosschain connections, and uVerify for regulatory compliance.

The BikeID project recently won the “Battle of the Builders” competition, a program that evaluates Cardano applications.

Currently, Cardano (ADA) is trading at $0.4048, down 13.33% in the last 24 hours. The price is now trading below important supports, with the last one that did not hold being $0.45. Short-term EMAs prevent recovery attempts. The chart image suggests weakening momentum and strong selling pressure in the $0.5 area.
