Liev Schreiber Calls Out Red Carpet ‘Soundbite’ Culture
Actor Liev Schreiber openly expressed his frustration during a promotional red carpet event for his forthcoming Apple TV+ series, Nocturne. The 59-year-old performer took issue when an interviewer—who appeared to be working directly with the Apple TV in-house team—asked him to summarize the new crime drama in three words. Rather than delivering a quick promotional line, Schreiber paused the flow of the interview to critique the style of questioning directly.
Talk to people like you value what they do,
Schreiber stated. It’s not a… soundbite, especially when we’re doing it in-house for our own people.
Continuing his candid feedback on the carpet, he added, We’re trying to make the show compelling. So engage with the person like they’re an actor, an artist. Three words… three words are not gonna do anything to anybody, and the monkey that thought of that is shooting themselves in the foot.
Pushing Back on Social Media-Driven Interviews
As Schreiber spoke, the interviewer glanced back at her camera operator to verify whether the exchange was actively being recorded and attempted to reassure the veteran X-Men star that the footage would not be broadcast. However, Schreiber maintained his position regarding how promotional content should be approached by internal media teams.
What I’m trying to say is,
the actor explained, If you wanna give them something that they can use, talk to people like they’re humans, not like it’s social media.
Once the interviewer adjusted course and offered a more substantive inquiry regarding the project, Schreiber softened his demeanor, noting, That’s a real question; let’s talk about it.
Inside Apple TV+’s Upcoming Crime Thriller ‘Nocturne’
In Nocturne, Schreiber features alongside co-star Zazie Beetz. The duo portrays FBI agents tasked with safeguarding a small Pennsylvania community from the dangerous machinations of an incarcerated serial killer. The chilling antagonist is brought to life by acclaimed Adolescence actor Stephen Graham, whose character has earned early attention, having been described by the New York Times as so intelligent and seductive he seems to be able to murder people from beyond his maximum-security cell
.
The crime thriller is an adaptation of The Sandman and Lazarus book series, authored by the Swedish husband-and-wife writing team Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril. While critical reviews remain under wraps ahead of the broadcast launch, audience anticipation is high for the on-screen showdown between the veteran leads. Online commentators have highlighted the casting, with one fan stating, I can’t wait to see Stephen Graham and Liev Schreiber put the screws to each other. This is a pairing that should have happened a long time ago,
while another praised Graham’s track record: I don’t think I have ever seen Stephen Graham in one bad thing. Just for him alone I would watch it.
Why This Matters
Schreiber’s reaction highlights a growing tension across modern entertainment junkets and premiere carpets, where the demand for rapid-fire, viral social media formats frequently clashes with talent eager to discuss the craft of long-form drama. For streaming platforms such as Apple TV+, marketing requires balancing engaging short-form internet clips with the artistic prestige of premium television. Nocturne will test that audience appeal when it officially launches on Apple TV on October 30, rolling out on a weekly schedule before concluding with its season finale on December 25.
