How Pips Works: Rules and Color-Coded Conditions

If you have played dominoes, the tile placement in Pips will feel familiar. Tiles sit vertically or horizontally and connect at touching ends. The critical difference lies in the color-coded spaces overlaying the grid. Touching tiles do not need to match numbers; instead, every tile half inside a colored zone must satisfy that zone’s specific rule.

A single tile half can sit inside a colored space while the other half sits outside it. Uncolored areas carry no restrictions. Here are the standard condition types appearing across all difficulty tiers:

  • Number: All pips in the space must sum to the displayed number.
  • Equal: Every domino half in the space must show the same pip count.
  • Not Equal: Every domino half in the space must show a different pip count.
  • Less Than: Every domino half in the space must total less than the displayed number.
  • Greater Than: Every domino half in the space must total more than the displayed number.
