The latest Colleen Hoover adaptation has arrived with a bang. Following a lucrative theatrical run that garnered $162 million worldwide, the psychological thriller Verity is transitioning into home living rooms just in time for the Halloween season. Based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling 2018 novel, the Amazon MGM Studios production brings the gripping, twisted narrative to screens with a high-profile ensemble cast led by Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway.
In Verity, Dakota Johnson portrays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is recruited as a ghostwriter to finish the lucrative book series of injured, prominent author Verity Crawford, played by Anne Hathaway. As Lowen stays at the Crawford residence to sort through notes and materials, she unearths an unpublished, disturbing manuscript that exposes horrifying secrets about Crawford’s family life and past. While critics were predominantly harsh on the feature—leaving it with a 31% score on Rotten Tomatoes—audiences embraced the dark cinematic release, with Mashable’s entertainment editor characterizing Anne Hathaway’s role as her “wildest performance of 2026.”
How to Watch ‘Verity’ on Digital Platforms
Beginning Oct. 27, home viewers have two immediate options to experience Verity: premium digital rental (VOD) or outright digital purchase across major retail platforms, including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.
- Digital Purchase: Available for $24.99 across Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, granting permanent access to the digital release.
- Digital Rental: Available for $19.99 on the same retail storefronts. Rentals typically give customers a 30-day window to begin viewing, with a 48-hour access period remaining once the movie has been started.
Streaming Details: When Will ‘Verity’ Land on MGM+ and Prime Video?
For audiences holding out for a subscription-based streaming option, an official SVOD premiere date has yet to be revealed by Amazon MGM Studios. However, looking at past distribution windows for Amazon MGM Studios titles—such as Is God Is and Project Hail Mary—the title is projected to make its initial streaming debut on Amazon’s dedicated MGM+ platform before gradually expanding to the broader Prime Video catalog.
Prospective subscribers looking to stream the movie upon arrival have several options for joining MGM+. First-time users can sign up for a seven-day free trial. For long-term plans, an annual MGM+ subscription currently retails at $61.99 (a discount from the standard $95.88 total, saving $33.89 over the monthly $7.99 rate), which works out to approximately $5.17 per month. Alternatively, Prime members can access the MGM+ Prime Video add-on, which frequently features promotions such as an introductory offer of $1.99 per month for two months.
Why This Matters
The trajectory of Verity underscores the ongoing power of BookTok and Colleen Hoover’s dedicated fanbase in driving modern box office receipts, even when critical reception is sharply divided. Generating $162 million theatrically despite a 31% critic aggregate on Rotten Tomatoes indicates a resilient audience demand for mid-budget psycho-sexual thrillers. Furthermore, Amazon MGM Studios’ release rollout illustrates a deliberate multi-tiered monetization strategy: capitalizing first on high-margin digital rentals and purchases before using hot-ticket titles to drive subscriber growth to its premium add-on channel, MGM+.
