A car mechanic says he “fired” a customer after the man demanded a 100% refund for a $3,000 Porsche repair involving a faulty air-conditioning compressor.

The dispute, shared by TikTok creator @jamiesgarage, highlights how disagreements over auto repairs, warranty coverage and payment can affect both customers and mechanics.

Porsche repair leads to warranty dispute

The video had received 395,000 views at the time of publication. The creator regularly posts videos from his shop involving repairs to luxury vehicles.

The customer brought his Porsche to the shop because its air conditioning was not blowing cold air. Since the vehicle had an extended warranty, the mechanic contacted the warranty company to discuss the problem and seek coverage for the repair.

According to the mechanic, representatives initially questioned whether the compressor was faulty and transferred the call to someone who could assess the component. When the warranty company first refused to cover the repair, the mechanic continued discussing the issue with its representatives.

While those discussions continued, the mechanic explained the situation to the customer and asked whether he still wanted to proceed with the $3,000 repair. The customer agreed, understanding that he might have to pay the entire amount himself.

The mechanic and his crew ordered the necessary part and replaced the compressor. They then spent hours on the phone with the warranty company, explaining the damage and requesting that it cover as much of the repair as possible.

During the process, the mechanic tells the customer, “You’re fired!”

Warranty company agrees to pay $1,500

The warranty company eventually approved $1,000, but for the wrong part, prompting another call. After the issue was corrected, the company agreed to cover $1,500 of the $3,000 repair. The customer accepted the arrangement and did not object at the time.

When payment was due, the mechanic told the customer that the warranty check had not yet been mailed. The customer suggested having the warranty company send the check directly to the mechanic and said he would pay the remaining balance.

The two agreed, and the customer left with a fully functioning air conditioner. However, the mechanic said the customer called a week later and demanded a full refund after finding a much cheaper option online.

The customer also told the mechanic that he planned to dispute the charge with his credit card company. The mechanic said his work ultimately went unpaid and that he lost $3,000 in the process.

Mechanic warns about repair disputes

At the end of the video, the mechanic used the incident as an example of how businesses in the auto service industry can be defrauded. He also addressed the customer directly: “Sir, if you’re watching…You’re fired!”

The Daily Dot was unable to independently verify the customer’s identity, the repair details or the warranty coverage described in the video. The account is based on information shared by @jamiesgarage on TikTok.
