A TikTok recounting a first date that began with high expectations and ended with the creator leaving her date at the restaurant has garnered over 439,000 likes. The video, posted by @nashalantmusic, details an evening that she said actually started off as the best date I have ever been on.

Date Begins on a High Note

According to the creator, the man picked her up in his own car and had made restaurant reservations without consulting her preference first. She expressed approval of this approach in the video, stating:

He had the restaurant in mind and did not ask me anything. That’s how I like it. Don’t ask me s—, juts take me where you want to take me.

She described the date continuing smoothly through drinks, appetizers, and conversation, with the pair ordering multiple rounds. Her impression of him at this stage was positive: He is cute, he is funny, he seems like he got money.

Mood Shifts When the Bill Arrives

The dynamic reportedly changed when the check came. The creator said the man grew quiet, and after roughly 15 minutes of dwindling conversation, she began to wonder, Why isn’t he picking it (the bill) up?

She said the man then excused himself to use the bathroom. When she asked how he planned to handle the bill, she claims he responded, I thought this was on you.

The creator said she pointed out that he had picked her up, chosen the venue, and initiated the date, and did not feel she should be responsible for paying. According to her account, he replied that he was not paying either, adding that he took her out because she had wanted him to. He said, I don’t take b—— on dates.

Creator Leaves Before Date Returns

The creator said that as she looked at her phone, the man asked what she was doing. She told him she was transferring funds to pay. She said he then told her their second date would be on him before heading to the bathroom, and she agreed to handle the bill. However, she clarified in the video that she was actually booking an Uber.

Rather than paying, the creator said she informed the restaurant’s front desk that her date would be covering the bill and that he would tip 30%. She then left the restaurant before he returned from the bathroom.

Commenters Largely Support Creator’s Decision

Reactions in the comments section were largely supportive of the creator’s actions. One user wrote, I would have ask for separate checks soooo fast and got my a– an uber. Another commented, I love how he BOLDLY assumed there would be a second date. A third wrote, How bro was looking after the bill came.

The Daily Dot was unable to independently verify the events described in this video. The details above reflect the creator’s account as shared on TikTok.
