Valve’s upcoming Steam VR sale has sparked fresh speculation that the company could soon announce the Steam Frame release date and price. The sale is scheduled to run from September 14 to September 21, 2026, giving Valve a potential opportunity to reveal its new VR headset immediately afterward.
Developers have reportedly received emails about the promotion. The invitation, shared by Steam Hardware Updates, says: “You’re invited to an upcoming VR sale on Steam, beginning September 14th! We will be featuring discounted VR games, and wanted to extend an invitation to you to participate.”
The timing could be significant. Summer officially ends on September 22 in the United States, and Valve has previously promised that the Steam Frame would launch before the end of the season. That makes September 22, or possibly an earlier date, a plausible window for a release date and price announcement.
Ending the VR sale would also leave the Steam store homepage available for a major product reveal. A dedicated Steam VR promotion followed by the announcement of a new headset would give Valve a natural opportunity to generate attention around the Steam Frame.
Several other signs point to an announcement being close. Valve continues to verify games for the Steam Frame, with Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes and Moss II VR the latest titles to join the “Great on Frame” category.
Valve is also believed to have received a substantial number of Steam Frame shipments, while retailers have begun listing accessories for the headset. Reports further indicate that review units have been distributed, with unboxing and setup videos appearing online ahead of the official launch.
Although Valve has not yet confirmed a date, the Steam Frame release announcement now appears to be a question of when rather than if. The company is also expected to reveal the headset’s price, which could exceed $1,000 amid the ongoing memory shortage.
