Real Madrid have made a strong start to the summer transfer window, completing six major signings to reinforce their first-team squad. Among the arrivals are Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Carlos Espi, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella, alongside club-record signing Yan Diomande.
The Spanish giants signed the 19-year-old winger from RB Leipzig for a reported €140 million, including add-ons, making Diomande the most expensive acquisition in Real Madrid’s history.
Yan Diomande chose Real Madrid over Liverpool and PSG
Nathan Campbell, Yan Diomande’s representative, discussed the Ivorian’s move to Real Madrid with El Chiringuito (h/t Defensa Central). He said the teenager is fulfilling a lifelong dream and never hesitated once Real Madrid expressed interest.
Campbell, one of Roc Nation’s agents, also outlined Diomande’s ambitions at the Santiago Bernabeu: winning trophies with Real Madrid and eventually claiming the Ballon d’Or.
“I’m excited and proud, and Yan Diomande is on his way to showing Real Madrid why they paid that amount for him,” said Campbell.
Diomande had no doubts about his preferred destination once Real Madrid entered the race.
“As soon as he knew that Real Madrid were interested, as I’ve said several times, he said he wanted to go to Real Madrid and that it was his dream. There were no doubts and no questions,” he explained.
Several leading European clubs were reportedly interested in signing the winger, including Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. However, Real Madrid’s appeal proved decisive.
“From the beginning, we knew that Real Madrid wanted him and although, obviously, there was interest from other teams, English clubs such as Liverpool, and also PSG…,” he said.
“Once Real Madrid sat down at our table, it was a pleasure to close the deal,” Campbell revealed.
Diomande targeting the Golden Boy award and Ballon d’Or
Diomande’s goals extend beyond collective success. His immediate ambition is to win the Golden Boy award, while his long-term objective is to become a Ballon d’Or winner.
“He doesn’t feel any pressure. He’s ready to start playing and achieve his goals, which are to win trophies with Real Madrid and eventually win some individual awards.
“Hopefully the Golden Boy this year, and in the future the Ballon d’Or is what he aspires to win,” he said.
The winger has arrived at Real Madrid with a low-key attitude and a determination to work hard and earn his place in the team. At the same time, he has set hugely ambitious targets for his career.
Diomande ultimately wants to become a leader of Real Madrid’s attack and establish himself among football’s elite. There is already significant excitement surrounding the Ivorian, and once Jose Mourinho considers him fully match-fit, the club-record signing is expected to challenge for a regular starting role.
