The Philadelphia region faces an unsettled week, with scattered showers Monday followed by dangerous heat, humidity and the potential for severe storms from Tuesday through Thursday.
Severe storms, heat and humidity expected Tuesday through Thursday
Monday, the final day of August, will be partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers and a chance of thunder. Severe weather is not expected to be likely.
September begins Tuesday, along with meteorological fall, but summer-like heat, high humidity and severe storms will affect the area. Each day, storms are expected to move around a ridge of high pressure and track southeast across the Philadelphia region.
Atmospheric conditions could support clusters of storms and possibly individual supercells, meaning all types of severe weather threats are possible. Temperatures will remain near 90 degrees each day, while humidity could push feels-like temperatures into the mid-90s to above 100 degrees.
Residents should stay hydrated and remain weather-aware Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This is also a good time to prepare for the heat and storms, including making plans for family members and pets.
The ridge of high pressure will gradually shift southward. By Thursday, a strong cold front could cross the region, potentially producing the greatest severe-weather threat of the week. Storm timing is still being evaluated, and the Storm Prediction Center has placed the region in a risk category for all three days.

Quieter weather is expected to return Friday, with partly cloudy skies and a chance of scattered showers.
