Person Arrested at Grand Central Terminal; Metro-North Lines Face Delays

A person was taken into custody Wednesday morning following a police response at Grand Central Terminal, causing significant delays across multiple Metro-North Railroad lines, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

Incident Disrupts Morning Commute

The incident occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m. on September 16, 2026. The MTA reported that a woman was acting erratically on a train pulling into the terminal. In response, another passenger activated the emergency stop cord. Passengers then began to self-evacuate from the train, prompting the MTA to cut power to the area.

A heavy police presence was observed at the terminal following the arrest. Video and images from the scene showed numerous officers stationed throughout the facility.

Service Impacts and Passenger Welfare

Delays were reported on the Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven Metro-North lines due to the police activity at Grand Central. The MTA confirmed that four passengers were evaluated for stress at the scene, but no physical injuries were reported.
