Pennsylvania Reports Four Measles Deaths in 2024, Including Teen with Rare Neurological Complication

Pennsylvania health officials confirmed Tuesday that the state has recorded a total of four measles-associated deaths so far this year, following the verification of additional fatalities.

Teen’s Death Attributed to Rare Measles Complication

Among the newly reported deaths is an 18-year-old from Mifflin County. According to a release from the county coroner, the cause of death was a “rare and severe neurological complication of measles.”

The announcement underscores the ongoing public health risks associated with measles outbreaks, particularly the potential for severe and fatal complications even in younger individuals. Health authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge vaccination as the most effective preventive measure.
