Brandon Aiyuk is no longer part of the San Francisco 49ers’ active roster plans, and the team says that status has not changed.
“Nothing has changed there,” 49ers General Manager John Lynch said Monday, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. “He’s on the reserve/left squad list, and as such, he’s just not on our roster.”

Aiyuk was scheduled to receive a $24.935 million option bonus on Sept. 1 under the contract extension he signed with the 49ers before the 2024 season. Lynch confirmed that San Francisco does not owe Aiyuk the money because he defaulted on his contract.
That default eliminated the option bonus and wiped out $27 million in guaranteed money.
The 49ers placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left squad list on Dec. 13. He must apply for reinstatement to return, but he has shown no indication that he plans to do so.
“I will not be reinstating with them or ever doing any kind of business with them,” Aiyuk said in a social media post in July. “I’m locked in and focused on my opportunity to return to the field this season.”
