Gary Oldman Claims Next James Bond Has Been Chosen, Backs Jack Lowden for 007 Role
Veteran actor Gary Oldman has suggested that the successor to Daniel Craig as James Bond has already been selected, throwing his support behind his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden for the iconic role.
Speaking to Canada’s Global while promoting the latest season of the Apple TV+ spy series, Oldman stated that Lowden is the chosen candidate, though an official announcement has not yet been made.
“It’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
It remains unclear from Oldman’s remarks whether he is confirming Lowden has been formally cast as 007, or if he is referring more broadly to Amazon MGM Studios finalizing their creative direction for the franchise’s next chapter.
Amazon MGM Studios Yet to Confirm Casting Decision
Amazon MGM Studios has been approached for comment on Oldman’s claims. The studio acquired control of the James Bond franchise rights through its purchase of MGM, and has been developing the next installment with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman attached.
Summer Auditions Signal Active Search
Deadline reported over the summer that auditions for the role took place in August. Director Denis Villeneuve, along with Pascal and Heyman, reportedly met with shortlisted talent during that process.
At the time, industry sources indicated that actors Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi aligned with the vision Amazon MGM Studios had for the character.
Lowden, a Scottish actor known for his work in Slow Horses, Dunkirk, and Mary Queen of Scots, has frequently appeared in betting markets and fan discussions as a leading contender to replace Craig.
