The 24-year-old Carrigg delivered the first multi-homer game of his career, finishing 4-for-5 at the plate and falling a triple short of the cycle. His three-run blast to right field capped a five-run sixth inning that handed Colorado a four-run advantage. Troy Johnston added three hits and two RBIs, while TJ Rumfield extended his on-base streak to 20 games with a pair of hits.
Feltner Shines in Long Relief Role
After starter Kyle Freeland exited following four innings, Feltner (6-10) blanked San Diego over the final five frames. The right-hander allowed just five hits and struck out five, earning the win and stabilizing a Rockies pitching staff that had struggled during the club’s recent skid.
Padres’ Win Streak Halted in Wild-Card Race
The loss ended an eight-game winning streak for the Padres, who entered the series 2 1/2 games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks for the final National League wild-card berth. Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Campusano, and Austin Hays each connected for solo home runs for San Diego. Tatis’ leadoff homer on the second pitch of the game marked his 18th since the All-Star break. Wandy Peralta (3-3) absorbed the loss after surrendering four earned runs without recording an out in the sixth inning.
Rockies Fighting to Avoid Historic Futility
Colorado entered the night 5-21 over its previous 26 games and had dropped 11 of its last 12 meetings with the Padres. At 56-95, the Rockies must win at least seven of their final 11 contests to avoid becoming the first franchise since the 1962-65 New York Mets to suffer four consecutive 100-loss seasons.
