iPhone 20 Release Date, Design Rumors, and What to Expect for Apple’s 20th Anniversary

Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max at its September 9 “Surprise and Shine” event alongside the foldable iPhone Duo. Yet credible reports and leaks are already circulating about a potential 20th-anniversary iPhone 20 slated for fall 2027. If the rumor mill holds, Apple may skip the iPhone 19 entirely—a numbering shift not without precedent—and deliver a major redesign to mark two decades since the original iPhone launched on June 29, 2007.

If you’re debating an upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro, a preview of what’s coming next year could help. Below is a roundup of the latest iPhone 20 rumors.

iPhone 20: When Will It Come Out?

Apple consistently debuts flagship iPhones in September, and there’s no indication that pattern will change. The iPhone 20 is widely expected to be announced in early September 2027, with an official launch a week or two later. For reference, the iPhone 18 Pro was announced on September 9 and released on September 18. The 20th-anniversary milestone also gives Apple an opportunity to experiment with its signature device.

iPhone 20: What Will It Look Like?

Design speculation centers on a radical increase in glass usage. Multiple credible reports from 2025 point to an all-glass, edge-to-edge display. Bloomberg and The Information both reported in May 2025 that the iPhone 20 would feature a seamless glass build. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman—arguably the most reliable Apple reporter—predicted the device would be a “mostly glass, curved iPhone without any cutouts in the display,” adding it would have “curved glass edges all around.” That suggests curved glass wrapping the device’s edges and, crucially, the potential elimination of the notch or Dynamic Island cutout for the front camera.

Korean outlet ETNews also reported in 2025 that the 20th-anniversary iPhone would adopt four-sided bending for a bezel-less, full-screen experience.

Conflicting Leaks on a True Waterfall Display

Not every source agrees. Prominent leaker Ice Universe posted on X that despite the rumors, “the iPhone 20 will not have a true curved display.” In 2026, the same leaker speculated that “a true quad-curved display is unlikely” due to manufacturing challenges, suggesting Apple will instead opt for a “visual quad-curved” design—similar to the rounded corners and subtle edge effects seen on the Apple Watch and the rumored iPhone Air.

Editor’s note: Embedded social posts from Ice Universe are currently unavailable.

A sculptural, curved-glass iPhone would stand out in a market where wrap-around and waterfall displays have appeared on televisions but rarely on smartphones.

Latest Specs: Two Pro Models, Two Sizes

The most recent update comes from Gurman at Bloomberg in June 2026. He reports that Apple plans to launch two iPhone 20 models in 2027, both in the Pro tier, measuring approximately 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches.

Do the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo Hint at the iPhone 20?

The iPhone 18 Pro reduced the Dynamic Island’s footprint, while the iPhone Duo employs an under-display FaceTime camera that preserves every pixel. Either approach—or a combination—could carry forward. Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language, which embraces curved glass and light refraction, further supports the idea that the iPhone’s physical form will evolve to match.

iPhone 20: New Buttons!

Leaker Instant Digital posted on Weibo in late 2025 that Apple is developing “solid-state” (non-moving, non-mechanical) buttons for the iPhone 20. These would use haptic feedback for power, volume, and camera controls. The shift could spark debate reminiscent of the home button’s removal, but it remains unconfirmed.
