Atlético de Madrid and Juventus have officially confirmed Jonathan David’s arrival at the Spanish club. The Canadian striker joins Atlético on loan to strengthen Diego Simeone’s attack after an underwhelming season in Turin.

David, 26, is expected to rediscover the form he showed during his time at Lille, where he established himself as one of Ligue 1’s most prolific forwards after joining from KAA Gent. His spell in Italy failed to match those standards, but the move to Atlético could provide a fresh boost to his career.

Atlético will retain a purchase option on the Brooklyn-born striker for 25 kilos. David remains under contract with Juventus until 2030 after joining the Turin club on a free transfer last season.

Jonathan David’s record at Juventus and Lille

David scored just eight goals in 46 appearances for Juventus, a significant drop from his output during three seasons at Lille. In Ligue 1, he scored 109 goals in 232 matches and provided 31 assists.

Both David and Atlético will hope he can reproduce those numbers in Madrid as he competes for a place in the frontline alongside Julián Alvarez and Sorloth.

The Canadian already knows what it is like to score at the Metropolitano. During his only visit to Atlético’s stadium with Lille, he scored twice. Simeone now has a new attacking option as the club prepares for the season ahead.
