Scott McTominay to Undergo Minor Heart Procedure After Arrhythmia Diagnosis

Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay is set to undergo a minor heart procedure after Napoli discovered “a mild benign arrhythmia”.

The 29-year-old was substituted after 56 minutes of Napoli’s 2-1 Serie A defeat by Como on Sunday. The club said he will receive corrective treatment “in the coming days”.

Napoli expect McTominay to return to action after the international break in early October. The midfielder also posted on Instagram: “See you soon Napoli. I won’t take long.”

McTominay likely to miss Scotland matches

The procedure is likely to rule McTominay out of Sebastien Pocognoli’s first four matches as Scotland head coach. Those fixtures are against Slovenia home and away, North Macedonia and Switzerland in the Nations League.

According to the NHS, an arrhythmia occurs when the heart beats too quickly or too slowly, or when the heartbeat is irregular.

Napoli said McTominay will undergo cardiac arrhythmia ablation. The British Heart Foundation explains that the treatment uses heat or cold energy to create tiny scars in the heart, blocking faulty electrical signals and restoring a normal heartbeat.
