MANILA, Philippines – Southern Police District (SPD) director P/Col. Kirby John Brion Kraft motorists passing the Alabang-Zapote Road route to check their dashboard cameras that may have captured clear footage of the riding-in-tandem suspects who shot and killed broadcast journalist and commentator Percival “Percy Lapid” Read this past October 3 evening.
Kraft said motorists who have dash cams in their cars have the potential to help in Lapid’s case by identifying the suspects.
According to Kraft, it was difficult for the SPD anti-cyber crime group to identify the suspects because they could not enlarge the videos they gathered due to the speedy running of the vehicles to Alabang, Muntinlupa.
At the same time, the SPD will also ask for help from the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) to find out the motorcycle as well as its license plate number used by the suspects in their escape after committing the crime.
Kraft added that they are currently still reviewing all 18 CCTV footages they obtained since Lapid left his home in San Beda Homes to the area before entering the gate of BF Resort Village where he was ambushed and killed.
Although Lapid’s case has not yet been resolved, the victim’s brother, Roy Mabasa, who is also a journalist, also thanked the PNP for focusing on the investigation of the case of the deceased mediaman.
Mabasa boldly said that apart from the expected arrest of his brother’s killers, the authorities should also identify the mastermind behind the ambush of Lapid.
Mabasa said that up to now, the PNP still has no leads in the identification of the suspects as well as the motive for the killing of his brother.
