MANILA, Philippines- A ferry ran aground in the waters of Benoni Port, Camiguin with 103 passengers on board.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard or PCG, the passengers of the Super Shuttle Ferry 21 were quickly evacuated this Sunday afternoon.
According to the ship’s captain, Captain Ian Sumaylo, while maneuvering from Benoni Port to Balingoan Port in Misamis Oriental, the Chief Mate noticed that their “steering power” was turned off.
This made maneuvering difficult and their ship ran aground.
A PCG rescue team was immediately deployed to evacuate the passengers.
During the inspection, it was confirmed that the ship was safe from any damage and that no oil spill had occurred.
According to the PCG, the said ship is also carrying 17 cargoes.
Passengers and cargo were transferred to Super Shuttle Ferry 28 which traveled to their destination. Jocelyn Tabangcura-Domenden
