MANILA, Philippines – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday, October 10 reminded disaster responders and local government units to review their contingency plans while Mayon Volcano is under alert level 2.
In the public briefing, NDRRMC spokesperson Assistant Secretary Raffy Alejandro said that the agency is already on alert and is in heightened monitoring of the situation in the volcano.
“We need to make sure that all responders or LGUs for that matter are ready, so that we can react in case it is elevated or there are further activities,” said Alejandro.
“So we need to revisit the contingency plan, let’s stockpile resources and of course we’ll conduct an early assessment while he’s still at Alert Level 2,” he added.
It can be recalled that on Friday the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised the alert status on Mayon Volcano from alert level 1 to 2 due to the increasing activity here. RNT/JGC
