Helicopter used to escape, request of De Lima's hostage-taker

MANILA, Philippines – The three persons under police custody (PUPCs) allegedly requested a helicopter to use to escape from the prisoner when former Senator Leila de Lima was taken hostage at the PNP Custodial Facility this morning, October 9.

This was said by Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos who immediately clarified that the purpose of these three was to run away.

“I want to make it clear to those listening today, these three are their target, they fled… Senator was taken hostage. Tied and blindfolded. Asking for something, a hammer, a helicopter, et cetera,” said Abalos in an interview with reporters at Camp Crame, Quezon City.

It will be remembered that on Sunday morning, a police officer identified as Police Corporal Roger Agustin was just delivering food when three inmates stabbed him with an improvised knife.

They were identified as Arnel Cabintoy, Idang Susukan and Feliciano Sulayao Jr. who are reportedly members of the Abu Sayyaf.

After that, Sulayao ran to De Lima’s cell and took him captive.

Today, in a separate statement, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. delivered a message. to not let this incident happen again.

A thorough investigation has been ordered for this. RNT/JGC
