MANILA, Philippines – The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) supports the postponement of the 2022 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
This is according to LPP president and South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. where it said that most of the governors believed that it was necessary to postpone the election.
“Majority of our governors believe that there’s really a need to postpone the elections,” ani Tamayo.
The second general assembly of the group was held on September 30 under the leadership of the South Cotabato provincial government.
The same is the view of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP), an association of all the leagues of local government units and locally elected government officials.
According to Tamayo who is also the interim chairperson of ULAP, it is necessary to consider the postponement of the barangay and SK elections because the national and local elections have just ended in May and the government will once again spend billions of funds.
The group knows that the call of the governors about this was too late because Congress had previously approved the proposal to postpone the BSK election and is just waiting for the approval of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. RNT/JGC
