[UPDATE] MANILA, Philippines – The three inmates who were stabbed by the police and who attempted to take former Senator Leila de Lima hostage at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City this past 6:30 am are dead.
According to Philippine National Police chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., three prisoners or persons under PNP custody (PUPC) who were identified as Arnel Cabintoy, Idang Susukan and Feliciano Sulayao Jr. tried to escape. later stabbed the policeman PCpl. Roger Agustin who is now in critical condition.
Another police officer on duty immediately responded and shot Cabintoy and Susukan, resulting in their deaths.
Sulayao was able to run and went to De Lima’s cell to take him hostage who was later killed as well.
“One of our policemen warned… When the three could not be harmed, he shot the two. The other ran to Sen’s cell. de Lima and staged Sen. de Lima,” said Azurin in an interview with TeleRadyo.
“And then, our police responded quickly. They were able to secure, and Sen is safe. of Lima. So the three prisoners who tried to escape died,” he added.
De Lima was in good condition and was immediately taken to the hospital to be examined.
“Senator de Lima is now safe while the police officer who was stabbed was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Three PUPCs were all neutralized and SOCO is now at the scene of the incident,” sinabi ni PNP Public Information Office Chief PBGen. Roderick Augustus Alba.
“Tension inside the detention facility has been defused and the situation has returned to normal while investigation is ongoing to review the security protocols inside the PNP Custodial. That is all we can tell you at the moment. We will keep you posted of other developments as more information becomes available,” dagdag pa niya.
