On September 21, the Japan Tourism Agency announced the winners of the Japan Tourism Agency Commissioner’s Commendation, which honors the achievements of groups and individuals who have contributed to the promotion and development of tourism. Six projects were selected, including Niseko Town (Hokkaido), which promotes the development of sustainable tourist destinations, and Gero Onsen Tourism Association (Gifu Prefecture), which is working on marketing based on consumption trend data. In addition, a special thank you letter was sent to two hotel groups that provided standby facilities for the prevention of the new coronavirus.
The Commissioner’s Award was established in 2009 after the establishment of the Japan Tourism Agency on October 1, 2008, and this is the 14th award.
Other than Niseko Town and Gero Onsen Tourist Association, the winners of the Director’s Award are Urabandai Tourism Revitalization Council (Fukushima Prefecture), Kita Management (Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture), Beautiful Village Tsurui Village Tourism Association (Hokkaido), Sekisui House/Marriott International. Special letters of appreciation were sent to APA Group and Seibu Prince Hotels Worldwide.
