MANILA, Philippines- President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is currently in contact. to government agencies and local government units to ensure their readiness after Mayon Volcano was raised to Alert Level 2
In fact, President Marcos is already in contact with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
“After the Mayon Volcano was raised to Alert Level 2, we continue to communicate with PHIVOLCS, NDRRMC, LGUs and other agencies to make sure that everyone is prepared for a possible change in the situation. Let’s be careful,” the President said on Twitter.
On Phivolcs’ side, Mayon Volcano has been raised to Alert Level 2 due to the volcano’s continued eruption.
He said the volcano is now experiencing a shallow magmatic process that can cause a phreatic eruption or hazardous magmatic eruption.
The volcano was first placed on Alert Level 1 in August due to low-level unrest.
Residents are advised not to enter the six-kilometer-radius permanent danger zone to avoid possible sudden explosions, rockfalls and landslides.
Pilots are also advised to avoid flying near the volcano. Chris Joseph
