MANILA, Philippines – The current volume of vehicles on EDSA has surpassed its pre-pandemic volume.
This is according to the latest data from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) – Traffic Engineering Center where about 410,000 vehicles cross EDSA every day.
It can be remembered that the traffic dropped to only 328,114 vehicles in 2020 or the height of the pandemic which is the lowest average traffic volume since 2013.
As many industries opened and restrictions were eased by 2021, it gradually returned to the pre-pandemic volume and this year it was completely surpassed.
Most of the said number are private vehicles at 53.8% followed by motorcycles, taxis, public utility buses and other public vehicles.
Looking back, EDSA only has 300,000 daily vehicle capacity connecting the north and south parts of Metro Manila. RNT/JGC
