MANILA, Philippines – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has instructed Henry Teves to vacate the position of governor of Negros Oriental after the poll body annulled his victory.
DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. said. that his department had already issued an order asking Teves to leave the post.
The Interior chief said this was after Roel Degamo was sworn in as governor of Negros Oriental before the President, which is why the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is considered “final and executory.”
This incident took root after the Comelec resolved the petition against a nuisance candidate named Grego Gaudia, who used the name “Ruel Degamo” on the ballots.
The newly-proclaimed governor filed a petition to transfer the nearly 50,000 votes that he almost called him, which was approved by the poll body. RNA
