59 days, extension for 300 illegal foreign workers

MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration has given 372 foreigners working and living in the Philippines a 59-day grace period to voluntarily leave the country.

This is what BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said this Friday, October 7 where of the aforementioned number, 331 are Chinese while 41 are from other countries.

“Ito po ay humanitarian option… It’s also the more economical option for the government,” ani Sandoval.

“There is no need to hold the custody of foreign nationals which entails less expenses for the government,” he added.

When the 59-day grace period is reached, the government itself will deport them.

“The deportation officers will arrest them and send them back to their country,” explained Sandoval.

Currently, there are about 48,000 foreign workers in the Philippines undergoing the verification process to find out if they can work in the country. RNT/JGC
