4 Chinese Coast Guard ships hovering in Panatag Shoal-PCG

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported this Thursday that they spotted four Chinese Coast Guard ships around Panatag Shoal during aerial surveillance.

The two China Coast Guard ships are said to be positioned inside Panatag Shoal, while the other two are outside, the PCG added.

The PCG added that it also monitored two other Chinese militia vessels outside Panatag waters.

There was no challenge between the coast guards of the two countries during the inspection.

Panatag Shoal is located west of Zambales and is within the 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone of the Philippines. China has repeatedly asserted its “sovereignty” over the shoal, which it calls Huangyan Dao.

Meanwhile, the PCG also reported that 30 to 40 Filipino fishing boats were seen in the area during surveillance. This encouraged more local fishermen to ply the route. RNA
