2,562 new cases;  38 more dead from COVID

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) this Thursday recorded an increase in the daily number of COVID-19 with 2,562 new cases, the highest recorded in five days.

The new cases pushed the active tally to 26,380, up from 25,733 active cases on Wednesday.

Thursday’s new infections came after three straight days of fewer than 2,000 new cases being reported.

The Philippines now has a total of 3,961,349 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began in 2020.

A total of 1,878 patients have recovered from the viral disease, the lowest in six days.

The country’s recovery tally is now at 3,871,820. The death toll rose to 63,149 from 63,111 on Wednesday. The 38 new deaths were the highest in 14 days.

The National Capital Region reported the highest number of cases in the past two weeks with 13,582, followed by Calabarzon with 5,523, Central Luzon with 2,886, Davao Region with 1,377, and Soccsksargen with 737.

At least 17,748 individuals were tested, while 336 testing laboratories submitted data as of Wednesday, October 5.

Bed occupancy in the country is at 25.6%, while at least 7,379 beds are occupied and 21,437 are vacant as of Tuesday, October 4. Jocelyn Tabangcura-Domenden
