Retail sales DI continues to be negative

On September 22nd, the Japan Finance Corporation released the August portion of the nationwide small business monthly trend survey. The sales DI for small enterprises in the same month (value obtained by subtracting the percentage of companies that decreased compared to the same month of the previous year from the percentage of companies that increased compared to the same month of the previous year; seasonally adjusted value) increased by 3.5 points from the previous month to minus 1.2. remained at a negative level. September is expected to be minus 3.7, and the minus range is expected to widen further.

Looking at the DI by industry, among the six non-manufacturing industries, the service industry’s DI fell to -3.3, down from 1.4 in the previous month. The transportation industry posted minus 3.4, widening the range of minus from minus 2.3 in the previous month.
