Opposition politician and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza was accused of high treason. About it informs TASS, citing law enforcement sources.
“On Thursday, in the presence of lawyers, Kara-Murza was charged with high treason under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” the source said.
According to investigators, the oppositionist allegedly provided assistance to organizations from NATO member countries for many years, directed against the security of Russia. He received 30 thousand dollars a month for this, claims pro-government TV channel RT. In turn, Izvestia claimthat Kara-Murza allegedly advised foreign intelligence officers while continuing to work in the interests of an “undesirable” organization, the Free Russia Foundation.
Under the article on treason, Kara-Murza could face up to 20 years in prison.
The politician has been under arrest in a pre-trial detention center since April 2022 in the case of “fakes” about the Russian army (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). He was aroused because of the politician’s speech in the Arizona House of Representatives on March 15, 2022. By versions consequence, in his speech Kara-Murza, «acting out of political hatred»distributed «knowingly false information» that the Russian military is bombing residential areas, maternity hospitals, hospitals and schools in Ukraine than «caused significant harm to the interests of the Russian Federation».
In July, a new criminal case was brought against him – under the article on the activities of an “undesirable” organization (Part 1 of Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Kara-Murza was the coordinator of the movement «Open Russia» (organizations of the same name are recognized as undesirable in Russia).
