ROSARIO, Batangas – There was an encounter between soldiers and members of the New People’s Army (NPA) this Wednesday in Barangay Calantas in this town.
The team from the 85th Infantry Battalion led by Corporal Jacky Gabayno was patrolling in the forested area when they encountered 15 NPA rebels around 9:20 in the morning.
The two sides exchanged fire for 20 minutes but the rebels escaped.
The soldiers recovered a laptop, documents, and medical supplies.
Batangas Police Provincial Office director Col. Pedro Soliba in the local police established checkpoints in cooperation with the military against the communist guerrillas in Barangay Mayuro in the said town.
The Rosario police are contacting the hospitals in town to determine if the wounded rebels were brought there.
Soliba encouraged residents to inform the police or military if they have information about suspicious individuals in the area. RNT/SA
