MANILA, Philippines – TNT coach Chot Reyes immediately left the Smart-Araneta Coliseum after his team was embarrassed against the Magnolia Hotshots playing without imports this Wednesday night.
Reyes was furious and confronted the referees and league officials following Magnolia’s 94-92 win over TNT where the Hotshots hit two free throws by Paul Lee.
Reyes was heard saying “no one hit,” obviously referring to the foul the referees called on Calvin Oftana that sent Lee to the foul line for marginal points.
Later, an enraged Reyes was also heard shouting and cursing in the hallway before leaving the venue.
It was a disappointing finish for TNT, which struggled behind imports Cam Oliver and RR Pogoy despite losing several key players to injuries.
Jayson Castro, Mikey Williams, Glenn Khobuntin, Brian Heruela, and Raul Soyud did not play due to injuries, while Poy Erram was out due to a one-game suspension he served for his ejection in Game Seven of the Philippine Cup finals in September.
TNT still led by as many as 13 points, 60-47. Although the lead was squandered, TNT was still in position to send the game into overtime after Oliver scored on a tip-in with 26.4 seconds left.
The TNT bench erupted in protest after Oftana called a foul on attacking Lee, and again in a last-ditch offensive featuring Kib Montalbo and Pogoy.JC
