The migrants transported by bus are asylum seekers who are now allowed to stay in the United States by U.S. Customs and Border Protection until their petition to stay in the country goes through the system. The migrants have escalated the governor’s feud and brought a humanitarian crisis to several parts of the country.
Buses began in the spring when Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey announced plans to send migrant buses to Pasthington, DC., and New York City in response to President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw emergency health care in the pandemic era limiting the number of incoming migrants.
