MANILA, Philippines – The Senate Committee on Finance has approved the National Economic and Development Authority’s (NEDA) proposed P13.273-billion budget for 2023.
At the same time as the budget hearing this Wednesday, October 5, committee chairman Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara said that the proposed budget will be sent to the plenary for final approval.
Under the National Expenditure Program (NEP) in 2023, NEDA and its attached agencies were given P13.273-billion, 6.04% less from the P14.126-billion under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
A large portion of the said amount will go to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) with P9.866-billion followed by the Office of the Secretary with P2.211-billion and the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) at P542.324 million.
The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) will receive a P254.609 million allocation, the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center at P209.176 million, and the Tariff Commission (TC) with P92.749 million in funds.
P63.092 million will go to the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) while the Philippine National Volunteer Services Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) will be given P32.937 million.
According to Angara, the proposed P5.628-trillion 2023 budget is targeted to be signed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in mid-December. RNT/JGC
